Bazzell for City Council PDF Print E-mail

In the fall of 2005, I entered the University of Iowa as a freshman living in Currier Residence Hall. I found Iowa City and the University to be vibrant and active with tremendous opportunities for students to interact with the community. I’ve been busy pursuing a major in Journalism and Mass Communication and Communication Studies, representing the University on the intercollegiate Debate team, being active in the community as a Board Member of the James Gang, representing students as president of the Dean’s Student Advisory Committee, and working in the University Business Manager’s Office.

The University of Iowa brings both opportunity and challenge to Iowa City. Students contribute to our community and support local businesses; the University creates a diverse workforce and promotes future growth in our economy. Students and the University also contribute to challenges in our community. We the citizens of Iowa City have an opportunity to grow by reaching out to the students to encourage them to participate rather than building walls that exclude the students.  It’s time for students and the City Council to be accountable for their actions and the impact on the community as a whole.  Together, we can make a difference in our community and I invite you to take a look at the issues and vote in the October 6th primary and the November 3rd general election.

Today I’m proud to call myself a citizen of the City of Iowa City, University of Iowa student, and member of the community,

Jared Bazzell
